Afghanistan-India relationship will not inflict harm upon Pakistan, clarifies Afghan envoy

ISLAMABAD – Afghan Ambassador to Pakistan Dr Omar Zakhilwal clarified on Tuesday that the ties between Afghanistan and India would not harm Pakistan.

Addressing a round table discussion, titled “Bilateral Reconciliation: Opportunities and Challenges” in Islamabad the envoy stated that Pakistan should maintain a good brotherly relationship with Afghanistan irrespective of the latter’s ties with any other country including India.

“Both the sides will have to respect each other’s sovereignty and move ahead to narrow down their differences to build long lasting trust,” Zakhilwal said at the moot organised by Regional Peace Institute.

The official bluntly maintained that Pakistan should not object to Afghanistan’s ties with India.

Zakhilwal advocated that peace in Afghanistan was mandatory to establish durable peace in Pakistan, adding that both the countries should move forward to remove “mistrust”.

Afghan envoy also accepted that there had been some mismanagement on Kabul’s part and said that the Afghan government should take action against Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan’s sanctuaries operating against Islamabad from inside Afghanistan.
