ISLAMABAD – President Arif Alvi has summoned the joint session of the parliament on Thursday at 4 pm.
In the session, the recently appointed president will deliver his speech to both the members of the Lower as well as members of the Upper House of the parliament.
Arif Alvi was elected as the 13th head of state on September 4, defeating Aitzaz Ahsan and Maulana Fazlur Rehman. He was administered the oath of office on Sunday by the Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar.
The session has been called a day before the burial of former first lady Begum Kulsoom Nawaz is scheduled.
Begum Kulsoom Nawaz breathed her last on Tuesday while battling cancer at a Harley Street Clinic in London.
Former premier Nawaz Sharif, his daughter Maryam and son-in-law Captain (r) Safdar were released on parole on Tuesday initially for a period of 12 hours which has now been extended to three days.

Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz president, Shehbaz Sharif headed to London on Wednesday to bring back the body of Kulsoom Nawaz which is expected to be in Pakistan by Friday through PIA’s 758 flight.
The timing of the joint session of the parliament was condemned by a lawmaker of Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, who happens to be a relative of the former foreign minister, Khawaja Muhammad Asif.
