Sarfaraz Bugti elected for Upper House

ISLAMABAD – Former Balochistan Home Minister Sarfraz Bugti of the ruling Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) elected Senator on Wednesday.

Bugti during by-election on vacant seat of Senate from Balochistan got 37 votes while his opponent Rehmatullah Kakar got 20 votes.

Five members vied for the coveted seat, in addition to Sarfraz Bugti and Rehmatullah Kakar, Amir Rind, Allauddin Marri and Mir Ghulam Dastagir contested the polls as independent candidates.

The seat was vacated by Naimatullah Zehri after his election as a member of the provincial assembly

A total of 57 out of 61 members of the assembly cast their votes in the election.

Earlier, the former provincial minister took to social media to thank the party’s leadership and Chief Minister Jam Kamal for entrusting him the Senate’s election ticket.
