How did this Indian khilaadi fool rich, unmarried women into giving him their savings?

Hyderabad (Web Desk) – The Indian man arrested for cheating a woman out of Rs 5.3 lakh after promising to marry her, has conned many other women as well in the past year using the same tactics.

According to Indian media, a fake Tax official named Tanmay Goswami alias Hemant Gupta was arrested by the Central Crime Station (CCS) from Mumbai for cheating numerous financially independent, unmarried women, who were all natives of West Bengal, out of a total of Rs. 70 lakh.

The Kolkata resident, Tanmay, 40, targeted women who were registered on popular matrimonial sites while posing as Hemant Gupta, a Bangalore-based deputy commissioner of Central Board of Direct Tax.

He had tricked the woman from Begumpet, who later filed a complaint against him, out of Rs 5.3 lakh by promising to purchase a flat in her name in Bangalore.

According to CCS officials, Tanmay had a wife and children in Kolkata.

His wife an art director in Bollywood did not know that he was already married.

“We are yet to access his Shaadi.com account. We might find more victims,” an investigation officer said.

Police have moved a petition seeking Tanmay’s custody which might be heard soon.
