NEW DELHI (Web Desk) – India on Friday said it was “extremely upset” over the verdict of a court in Islamabad ordering release of Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi and has lodged a strong protest with the Pakistan government.
The ministry of external affairs also summoned Pakistani high commissioner Abdul Basit to lodge a protest, Times Now reported.
India on Friday said it is the responsibility of Pakistan to keep him behind bars as there is overwhelming evidence of his role in the 2008 Mumbai attacks.
The statements from the Indian side came shortly after Islamabad High Court s Justice Noorul Haq accepted Lakhvi s appeal filed against his third time detention orders and ordered his immediate release.
The 55-year-old has been accused of masterminding, along with six others, the Mumbai attacks in 2008, when 10 terrorists entered India s financial capital through searoute and carried out the mayhem.
The trial has been underway since 2009. He has been detained at Adiala jail for the last five years or so.
