Chinese President Xi pledges to further cement ties with Pakistan

BEIJING – Chinese President Xi Jinping has expressed his resolve to further strengthen ties with Pakistan by enhancing cooperation in multiple spheres.

He was talking to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, who reached China along with his delegation comprising the four chief ministers and ministers, during a meeting with him in Beijing on Saturday.

Radio Pakistan quoted President Xi as saying, “The two countries had more potential to strengthen bilateral cooperation regarding implementation of CPEC and other regional connectivity projects.”

In his remarks, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said that Pakistan was committed to support Chinese initiative of One Belt and One Road.

Nawaz Sharif said, “CPEC is a core component of the visionary initiative of the One belt-One Road.”

Hailing the commitment and leadership of the Chinese President for the implementation of CPEC projects, Nawaz Sharif said his government is making efforts for realisation of the CPEC. He pointed out that Pakistan has marked good progress in implementation of energy and infrastructure projects.

The prime minister also felicitated President Xi on organising the Belt and Road Forum saying number of world leaders are attending the forum which shows China’s growing stature in the international community.
