ISLAMABAD – Ahead of the by-elections on Oct 14, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has completed the security measures and printing of the ballot papers.
According to the number of seats vacated by the lawmakers, by-elections are set to take place on 11 National Assembly (NA).
As two Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf’s candidates have already been elected unopposed from Punjab Assembly’s constituencies PP-87 (Mianwali) and PP-296 (Rajanpur), the by-elections will be held on 24 provincial assembly seats – 12 Punjab Assembly, nine Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, on Sindh, and two Balochistan assembly seats.
As per the details issued by the ECP, as many as 1,727 polling stations out of the total 7,489 have been categorized as highly sensitive. These polling stations including 197 in Balochistan, 201 in Sindh, 848 in Punjab and 1555 in Khyber Paktunkhwa.
Pakistan Army personnel have already taken the responsibility of the polling stations. They will remain deploy at the polling stations till Oct 15.
Meanwhile, the ECP has printed over 9.9 million ballot papers for the by-elections, which will be transported to the polling stations amid tight security.
More than a 100 candidates, including Khawaja Saad Rafique, are contesting for 35 national and provincial assembly by polls.
Over five million registered voters, including overseas Pakistanis, will be using their right to vote exercise their right to vote tomorrow.
