LAHORE – A professor of Government College University (GCU) Lahore was gunned down near Kalma Chowk, Lahore on Wednesday.
The deceased, identified as Professor Dr. Akbar Ahmad Cheema, was en route to somewhere along with his mother when unknown assailants opened fire on him.
Earlier, it was being reported that the professor was killed on resistance during a robbery attempt. However, police have found an element of personal enmity during the initial investigation.
Rescue official after receiving information shifted the doctor to a hospital for medical treatment where he succumbed to his bullet wounds.
Cheema was a professor at Botany department of the University.
Following the incident, the police have launched an investigation into the case, while evidence from the crime scene has been collected for examination.
Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif taking notice of the incident sought report from CCPO Lahore regarding the killing of the varsity professor.
The chief minister has directed the police officer to ensure the arrest of the assailants as soon as possible. He also expressed grief over the killing.
