22 wedding guests die as bus plunges into ravine

PALANDRI (Web Desk) – As many as 22 commuters lost their lives along-with  two dozen others faced injuries when a bus carrying participants of a wedding ceremony fell into a ditch in Azad Jammu and Kashmir here on Sunday.

According to Police officials, a bus carrying about five dozen attendants of a wedding party from Palandri to Hajira area of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) veered off the road due to overspeeding while taking sharp turn near Janjaal Hill Morr and plunged into a gorge.

Rescue team rushed to the spot and started rescue operation soon after the accident. Many of the injured were in critical condition.

According to local senior official Ibrar Azam, both bride and groom were travelling in a different vehicle and escaped the mishap.

Meanwhile, AJK Prime Minister Raja Farooq Haider expressed shock over the tragedy and offered condolences to the bereaved families. He also directed the Pallandri administration to provide free treatment to the injured and hand compensatory cheques among the victims.
