ISLAMABAD – In a bid to inform the younger generation about the struggle for Pakistan, highlight the sacrifices of armed forces and introduce different cultures of the country to them, Pakistan Railways is set to run a special Azadi Train in connection with Independence Day celebrations this year.
This was stated by Federal Minister for Railways Khawaja Saad Rafique while he was chairing a meeting along with Pervez Rasheed, the Minister for Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage.
The Railways Minister informed the meeting that Pakistan Railways has completed preparations for the Azadi Train with more improvement this year. The train will run through all the provinces and regions of the country to highlight various aspects of the Freedom Movement.

The meeting was informed that sports activities, national Mushaira, debating contests, national songs competitions, photo exhibitions and food bazaars will also be held at schools, colleges, universities and major railways stations across the country.
The meeting decided to constitute an inter-ministerial special coordination committee for integrated implementation of Azadi Train plan at the operational level.
Addressing the meeting, Senator Pervaiz Rashid said that Independence Day this year would be celebrated with more vigour and enthusiasm throughout the country.
The Information Minister said through the celebrations homage would be paid to the martyrs of Pakistan Movement and soldiers, who sacrificed their lives while defending the country, besides highlighting culture and heritage of all regions of Pakistan.
The minister directed all the departments of the Ministry of Information to work together with other ministries and Pakistan Railways to highlight ideological base of the country through the Independence Day celebrations.
The meeting was attended by Secretary IB&NH Syed Imran Gardezi, Secretary Cabinet Nadeem Hassan Asif, Secretary Railways Ms Perveen Agha, media chiefs and senior officials of the Pakistan Railways and Cabinet Division.
