ECP lifts ban on new recruitment in state departments

ISLAMABAD – The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has lifted a ban on fresh recruitment in all government departments after the caretaker government took over the country ahead of general elections.

Withdrawing the old notification, the election body has allowed the interim government, headed by Prime Minister Nasirul Mulk, for hiring in the state institutions, local media reported.

It added that the caretaker government can promote and hire officials in the larger interest of the public.

On April 11, the ECP had imposed a ban on fresh recruitment ahead of the upcoming general election with effect from April 01.

All federal and provincial authorities have been issued directives to strictly comply with the restrictions, the Commission said in a statement on Wednesday.

It had added the ban is aimed to ensure transparency in the general elections scheduled around August this year.
