LAHORE – Popular television host Aftab Iqbal has expressed his views regarding hysteria that marriage is the cure to mental illness on his television show. Iqbal had said that “marriage is the cure to mental illness” on his television show Khabarzar on 14th April episode showcased on Aap News.
The host had given a conclusion that ‘without marriage, a woman gets mentally ill’ despite having no experience in human psychology and psychiatry.
It’s not only a biased comment by a public figure also it reflects the lack of understanding of mental illness in Pakistan. If a person appearing on national television is having such mindset up then we fear what a mediocre citizen must be having in his mind regarding human mentality and dealing life issues.
Even so, how can anyone make that leap from a woman’s relationship status and her health? In fact, he added fuel to the fire by adding that mental illness occurs when women opt to pursue careers instead of marriage. He blatantly stated ‘that’s what happens when you go against nature’.

In our opinion, Aftab Iqbal is not well aware of Pakistani women who are contributing to the country’s economy significantly.

The Pakistani women of today do enjoy a better status than in the past. In modern Pakistan, women have held high offices including that of the Prime Minister, Speaker of the National Assembly, Leader of the Opposition, as well as federal ministers, judges, and generals in the armed forces.
