PM Nawaz announces Dec 16 as National Day for Education Cause

PESHAWAR (Staff Report) – Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif Wednesday announced that December 16 will be observed as ‘Day of National Resolve to promote Education’ every year in a bid to pay rich tributes to the martyrs of APS attack.

Addressing the first anniversary of brutal attack on Army Public School Peshawar which killed 141 people including 134 children last year, the premier said that soon APS college will be given a status of university as sign of national resolve to completely root out terrorism.

He went on to say that December 16 APS tragedy has united the whole nation and fixed the future course for Pakistan. The time is now to root out all types of terrorism across the board, he added.

He further said that Operation Zarb-i-Azb has broken the back of terrorists and the day is not far when terrorism will be completely eliminated.

On the occasion Nawaz Sharif also paid tributes to the armed forces for waging a valiant campaign against terrorism under the leadership of Army Chief General Raheel Sharif and completely eliminating the terrorists.

He told audience that as many as 122 schools and colleges of the Islamabad Capital Territory have been named after martyrs of Army Public School.

Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif, CJSC General Rashid Mehmood, chief ministers of four provinces, chief minister Gilgit Baltistan, Governor KPK and Gilgit Baltistan, PTI chairman Imran Khan, JI chief Sirajul Haq and other leading political and military leaders were also present in the ceremony.

The families of all APS martyrs were honoured with medals, letters of appreciation and documents of residential plots during the event which was held in Army Public School Peshawar.
