ISLAMABAD (Staff Report) – Mr Dominic Barton, Global Managing Director McKinsey Tuesday called on Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif at PM House in Islamabad.
While sharing his views on the economic situation in Pakistan, Dominic Barton said that Pakistan has witnessed an amazing economic turnaround by pursuing practical economic policies during the last two years. “China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) is internationally viewed as a vital project which is destined to unlock the economic growth in Pakistan, as well as the entire region”, observed MD McKinsey.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said that pace of work in implementation of projects is necessary as slow execution will hamper the overall progress and development initiatives of the government. We are engaged in pursuing the economic reforms agenda of our government with special focus on achieving self sufficiency in energy and infrastructure development in Pakistan, added the Prime Minister.
The Prime Minister reiterated his Government’s resolve to ensure a merit-based business friendly environment in Pakistan. “We have a liberal approach towards economy and as a government our earnest efforts for ensuring transparency, competitiveness and giving an enhanced role to private sector in national economy are eminently clear from our performance”, emphasized the Prime Minister.
Appreciating the economic growth achieved by the present government, Dominic Barton said that energy sector, infrastructure development and attracting investments are the rightly prioritized areas of the government. We are ready to support the policy reforms of the government. “We are ready to extend our assistance to the government in reducing line losses in the transmission lines”, said the Mr Barton.
Mr Ishaq Dar, Minister for Finance and other senior government officials were present during the meeting.
