PM Nawaz condemns coup attempt, extends support to Turkish government

ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – Putting weight behind the Erdogan led Turkish government, Prime Minster Nawaz Sharif has expressed solidarity with the masses of Turkey for their resistance against the military coup last night.

The premier also expressed his greetings to the Turkish President.

In another statement, spokesperson of government of Pakistan said that we support the will of the people reflected in the democratic system and the democratically elected leadership of Turkey.

Moreover, Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Syed Tariq Fatemi has telephoned Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu and expressed solidarity of people and government of Pakistan with the Turkish Government and democratic institutions.

Meanwhile, Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif on Twitter has said that Turkish people have defeated the dark forces and defended their right to rule.

Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has also felicitated the Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan, Turkish Prime Minister and public on foiling the conspiracy against their democratic system.

In a statement in Lahore, he said with this move Turkey has stamped on the rule of people in their country.

Minister for railways Khawaja Saad Rafique also took to Twitter to appreciate people of Turkey.

The Turkish Foreign Minister thanked the government and the people of Pakistan for showing resolve to stand by democracy in Turkey. He said this is what we expected from a brother country.
