Pakistan, India foreign secretaries hold informal meeting in Nepal

KATHMANDU (Staff Report) – Exactly two months after Pakistan and India cancelled the meeting of foreign secretaries of two countries scheduled on January 15, Pakistani foreign secretary Aizaz Chaudhry has held an informal meeting with his Indian counterpart Subrahmanyam Jaishankar in Nepal.

According to a statement, the meeting took place at a breakfast of delegates -which have gathered in Nepal for a meeting SAARC foreign ministers- and was purely informal in its spirit.

The statement further said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s special advisor on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz and Indian Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj will also meet in Nepal on Thursday. Aziz will also hold meetings with other SAARC foreign ministers.

The statement, however, did not carry any details about the proceedings of today’s meeting or agenda of Aziz-Swaraj meeting.

Its also did not mention any progress made on the proposal of a formal meeting between foreign secretaries of Pakistan and India -which was agreed during Sushma Swaraj’s Pakistan tour- to resume comprehensive bilateral dialogue to discuss all outstanding issues between two countries.
