KARACHI – A large number of people on Tuesday took to streets against the alleged murder of a minor girl after being raped in Karachi’s Manghopir area.
The body of the victim, identified as six-year-old Rabia, was found atop a hill near Nooruddin Goth at midnight after she went missing on Monday morning.
Demanding the arrest of the culprits, the residents of the area blocked the road leading to Kati Pahari area and also brought the body of the deceased girl.
As the police reached to clear the road, the protesters pelted stones on the officials, subsequently, the police baton charged the people and made aerial firing to disperse them, escalating the tension. Rangers officials have also been called to assist the police.
Some injured protesters have been shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital as the clash is ongoing in the city. A person who injured in police firing died, succumbing to his wounds in hospital. The deceased has been identified as Abdur Rahman.
SSP West Umar Shahid said holding the protest was baseless as two of three accused, who have been nominated in the FIR, have been arrested.
Earlier, the police said that the DNA samples have been taken from the body of the girl and investigation is underway.
As police approached the aggrieved family member to call off the protest, they agreed to end it but the other protesters refused to do that until the justice was deleivered.
Manghopir police station’s Duty Officer (DO) Ijaz said the victim’s father visited the police station at 9:00pm on Monday regarding his daughter’s disappearance.
