Sharif-owned offshore firms possessed Avenfield Properties in 1990’s, claims NAB

ISLAMABAD – In what appears to be another blow to the embattled Sharif family, the National Accountability Bureau has claimed that the Sharif family’s upscale London apartments were transferred in the name of offshore companies Nielson and Nescoll in 1993-1995.

According to NAB sources, the Avenfield properties were transferred to the offshore companies at a time when Nawaz Sharif’s children, Hussain and Hassan, were young and did not have any source of income.

During the hearing of the reference filed by the accountability watchdog against members of Sharif family, the Deputy Prosecutor general NAB, Muzaffar Abbasi requested the court to include the fresh documents a part of court record which were obtained through Mutual Legal Assistance (MLA).

Upon this, the counsel for Maryam Nawaz, Amjad Pervez  protested heavily following which the accountability court judge turned down the request of NAB.

The Avenfield properties reference is among three cases filed against Nawaz and his family by the graft-buster in 2017 on the Supreme Court’s directives.

In public statements, former Prime Minister Nawaz had said the Avenfield properties were transferred in the name of the companies in 2005-2006 and that they belonged to his children, contrary to the fresh revelations.

The hearing of the Avenfield properties case is currently underway in the accountability court of Islamabad.
