Pakistan s CJP Mian Saqib Nisar retires today

LAHORE – Mian Saqib Nisar is retiring as the 25th Chief Justice of Pakistan’s apex court today (Thursday).

In his honour, a full court reference will be held at the Supreme Court in Islamabad. The reference will be addressed by the outgoing CJP, Chief Justice-designate Asif Saeed Khosa and the President of Supreme Court Bar.

Mian Saqib Nisar ascended to the office of Pakistan’s top judge on December 31, 2016. He presided over some of the country’s highest-profile civil and constitutional cases, including the disqualification of former PM Nawaz Sharif.

His verdicts have had an enduring impact on the country’s political milieu as well as its public and private sectors.

Tomorrow, Asif Saeed Khosa will take oath as 26th Chief Justice of Pakistan at a ceremony at Aiwan-e-Sadr. President Dr. Arif Alvi will administer oath to him.
