WhatsApp introduces new features for group chat

MENLO PARK – Social messaging service WhatsApp has rolled out new group-chat features in its application.

The new update includes more control for administrators and regular group members.

  • Group description: Group administrators can establish the purpose, guidelines and topics for groups, and new members will see this information atop the chat.
  • Admin controls: Admins can restrict which members can change the group’s subject, icon and description. They can also remove admin permissions of other group members. Group creators can no longer be removed from groups they started.
  • Group catch-up: Group members can catch up on messages that mention them or replies to their posts by tapping a new @ button in the bottom-right-hand corner of the group chat.
  • Participant search: Group members can find other group members by searching the group information page.

The updates are available for both Android and iOS versions of WhatsApp.
