LAHORE – The National Accountability Bureau (NAB), Lahore, has started the process to impose travel restrictions on former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and others members of the family, facing corruption trial.
As per reports, the NAB Lahore on Friday sent a letter to its headquarters asking him to put names of the former premier, his children – Maryam, Hassan and Hussain Nawaz – and son-in-law- Captain (retd) Safdar on the Exit Control List (ECL).
The NAB had filed three corruption references regarding Avenfield properties, Azizia Steel Mills and Hill Metals Establishment, and Flagship Investment Ltd in the backdrop of the Panamagate Verdict.
Following the request, the headquarters will contact the Ministry of Interior to place their names on the travel ban list.
Earlier, the accountability court had declared Hussain and Hassan proclaimed offenders after they failed to turn up in the court despite repeated summons.
At first, the anti-graft watchdog put the names of brothers on the ECL and if they were reluctant to appear in the court, then an action to cancel their passports would be taken.
On Thursday, NAB had asked the interior ministry to put Finance Minister Ishaq Dar’s name on the ECL after an accountability court issued non-bailable arrest warrants for him for not attending the court hearings. Dar was facing charges of possessing assets beyond means.
