One dead, 22 injured in Chaman blast near Pak-Afghan border

CHAMAN – At least one person was killed and 22, including security personnel, were injured in a blast near the Pak-Afghan border in Chaman on Monday.

The injured have been taken to Civil Hospital Chaman (CHC) for medical treatment and one of them is in critical condition, Abdul Hayee Baloch, the district police officer Chaman told the local media.

A 12-year-old boy injured in the blast succumbed to his injuries at CHC, hospital sources said.

The blast appeared to be a suicide attack targeting security forces, a senior administration official said.

He said body parts of a suspected suicide attacker were collected by law enforcement agencies during an initial sweep of the area following the blast.

Security has been tightened in and around the border in the aftermath of the explosion. Besides Levies, Frontier Corps personnel have also reached the spot and cordoned off the area to probe the incident.

No one has claimed responsibility for the attack as yet.
