Gen Raheel Sharif to visit Afghanistan this month

ISLAMABAD (News Desk) – As a sign of positive development in Pakistan-Afghanistan ties Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif is likely to visit Kabul in the last week of this month (December), reported the Dawn.

According to media report, during the visit Raheel Sharif will hold meetings with top Afghan officials including President Ashraf Ghani to inform them about what is latest on resumption of a Afghan-led peace dialogue with Taliban insurgents.

The visit was discussed in a high level meeting chaired by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Friday however the final date of the trip has not been yet decided, the newspaper said while quoting unnamed sources.

The visit comes after Pakistan, Afghanistan, United States and China jointly discussed the proposal of resumption of peace dialogue in Afghanistan. The four countries had agreed on a political settlement in Kabul for long enduring peace in the region.
