War on polio: Bill Gates meets PM Nawaz on sidelines of World Economic Forum

DAVOS – Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates has appreciated the tremendous successes made by Pakistan, in regard to polio eradication.

During a one-to-one meeting with Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif in Davos, Switzerland on Thursday, Mr. Gates lauded the Pakistani government for achieving great success regarding eradication of polio virus from the country, during the last three years.

Commending the leadership of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Bill Gates, who has donated billions to fight global diseases, said that the Year 2017 would be a year of polio eradication from Pakistan.

He also told the PM that he is looking forward to his visit to Pakistan in coming months.

PM Nawaz briefed the American business magnate on the measures taken by his government in the national fight against polio. “The federal government, along with all provincial governments, and of Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, are collectively involved in the fight against polio,” the PM added.

Nawaz Sharif further said that all resources at federal and provincial levels are fully utilized for achieving a polio-free Pakistan and ensuring healthy future generations.

Pakistan and Afghanistan are the only countries battling polio now with Nigeria making considerable progress towards polio free status.
