ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – Leader of the Opposition in Senate Aitezaz Ahsan Tuesday urged the government to give the Anti-Honor Killing Laws (Criminal Laws Amendment) Bill 2015 from the joint sitting of the Parliament to discourage the trend of honour killings.
Addressing in the Upper House, he said, the Senate had already given a bill making it impossible for the family to pardon the killers in honour killing cases.
He read such kind of offence should be considered an offence against the state as in such cases, one brother shot down his sister while the other pardoned him.
He stated it would be a great help to the women folk and particularly the miserable ones who were constantly holding out in awe and were victims of such crime.
Aitezaz said after passing the bill, such kinds of offences would be discouraged and there could not be an agreement.
He sounded out those who had reservations regarding amendment in the law should review them in the larger interest of the country. He said incidents of honour killings were on the rise in our social club and the time has come to discourage such kinds of heinous crimes.
