LAHORE – Caretaker Prime Minister Justice (retd) Nasirul Mulk on Thursday arrived in Lahore to review security arrangements ahead of the general elections.
The interim premier will hold a meeting with Punjab Chief Minister Hassan Askari and other officials to discuss matters pertaining to elections, security measures, etc.
Earlier, the interim Punjab chief minister vowed to provide best possible security during the elections days in order avert any untoward incident.
The polls are set to be held on July 25 marking the second consecutive democratic transition in the history of Pakistan.
The government meetings regarding the security are being held when a recent spate of attacks on politicians hit the country.
In Punjab, a candidate of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz and former federal minister, Sheikh Aftab, came under attack late Monday in Attock but fortunately remained safe.
Aftab and his son, Sheikh Salman, were on their way home after attending a corner meeting in Kamra village, when unidentified men opened fire on his vehicle in an area falls under the jurisdiction of City Police Station.
Earlier, around 150 people were martyred and over 250 others injured in the recent wave of terror attacks which hit political gathering in Peshawar, Bannu and Mastung.
Among those killed were Awami National Party (ANP) leader Haroon Bilour and Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) candidate Siraj Raisani.
