MULTAN (APP) – Chief Minister Punjab Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif gave approval for setting up of Bio-Technology laboratory with the cooperation of China, at Cotton Research Station (CRS) Multan.
This was disclosed by Director Cotton Research Station Dr Sagheer while talking to APP here on Thursday. He informed that provincial government has sent approval letter to the Ministry of Science and Technology.
The Science and Technology Ministries of the both countries, Pakistan and China, were working under joint venture to establish bio-tech research laboratory for strengthening agriculture sector in Pakistan. Earlier, the site for bio tech was not decided and now the government approved the lab’s site at Cotton Research Station, Multan.
Dr Sagheer said that lab would provide opportunities for joint studies and research. He said the cooperation between scientists of China and Pakistan would also be enhanced through lab project.
Bio-technology lab would facilitate farming community in achieving high quality cotton seeds. Similarly, productivity cost on crops would also reduce and it would surely benefit farmers economically.
It is pertinent to mention here that the bio-tech lab is part of different projects under Pak-China Economic Corridor (PCEC).
Chinese President Xi Jinping and Pakistani Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif witnessed the signing of the MoU of this joint laboratory in April this year.
