107 cable operators’ offices sealed over rules violation

ISLAMABAD – Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) enforcement teams Tuesday night confiscated cable operators’ equipment used in activities against rules and regulations and partly or fully sealed their offices.

A press release issued by PEMRA on Wednesday said that the concerned cable operators were ordered that if they were found involved in illegal activities in the future, their licenses would be invalidated.

The PEMRA teams inspected thousands of cable operators and found that nearly 90 percent of them were sticking with the formulae. However, the PEMRA teams fully or partly sealed offices of 107 cable operators for violations of rules and regulations.

The PEMRA teams also visited various markets from where complaints of the sale of illegal Indian DTH systems had come, however no evidence of the illegal business was found.

The press release further said that the October 15 deadline was mandatory for all TV channels and no one would be allowed to cross 10 pc limit for foreign content out of which maximum 6 pc Indian and 4 percent other foreign content can be shown.

The cities where PEMRA team conducted raids included Peshawar, Nowshera, Mardan, Charsadda, Kohat, D I.Khan, Hazara division,Karachi,Lahore,Hyderabad,Sukker,Larkana,Tando Allahyar,Mirpur Khas, Sialkot, Narowal, Gujrat, Hafizabad, Sheikhupura, Faisalabad, Multan, Bahawalpur, Layyah, Lodhran, Muzaffargarh, Jhelum, Attock,Rawalpindi,Chakwal,Okara and Kasur.
