ISLAMABAD – Chief Justice Saqib Nisar on Thursday took suo moto notice of a child rape case in Karachi.
Earlier this week, an eight-year-old girl was found from a drain in Korangi area of the port city. After medical examination, it was confirmed that the child was raped.
She is a student at private school, a resident of Korangi and originally hails from Sindh’s district Mithi.
The apex court’s notice comes days after parliamentarians expressed their concern over rape incidents during a session in the Sindh Assembly, calling for strict punishment for the rapist.
Police also found torture marks around the neck and hands of the victim, currently admitted at the Civil Hospital trauma centre in critical condition.
Additional Police Surgeon Dr Iqrar confirmed that the girl was subjected to sexual assault.
However, a detailed statement will be recorded when her condition improves, police added.
A case against unknown persons was registered at Ibrahim Hyderi police station. It includes sections of rape and attempt to murder.
Earlier this month, CJP Saqib Nisar has taken suo notice over a case of torture on 10-year-old child maid Tayyaba who was recovered from an additional sessions judge’s residence in Islamabad.
