OXFORD – Twinkle Khanna and Malala Yousafzai recently got together to promote Akshay Kumar’s upcoming movie ‘PadMan’ and emphasize on the importance of menstrual hygiene.
Twinkle said, “I hope this movie becomes a movement: where women are no longer held back or shamed by their biological functions.”
She said further ,”My primary motivation to make a movie on menstruation was to bring awareness to a subject that so far has been tucked away in shadows and like Voldemort is never mentioned.”
However, what took an interesting turn was when this picture became viral on the internet; showing Malala with Twinkle Khanna and several other people holding sanitary pads in their hands.
Not at all surprisingly, people were not happy with this ‘inappropriate’ act.
Some people thought it was ‘unethical’ too and very appropriately brought in religion and how mothers should be bringing up their children.
What was refreshing to see was that many people came in support of this movement and supported the cause.
‘Padman’ stars Akshay Kumar, Sonam Kapoor and Radhika Apte in lead roles.
