New air chief calls on COAS at GHQ

RAWALPINDI – The new Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Mujahid Anwar Khan on Tuesday met the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa at army’s general headquarters in Rawalpindi.

In a statement, the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) said that the Chief of Air Staff was presented guard of honour. He laid floral wreath at Yadgar-i-Shuhada (Martyrs’ Monument).

The COAS congratulated the Air Chief Marshal Mujahid Anwar Khan on his promotion and prestigious appointment, and wished him good luck.

Earlier in the day, the Air Chief Marshal Mujahid Anwar Khan also met Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi at Prime Minister’s Office in Islamabad and discussed professional matters pertaining to Pakistan Air Force (PAF).

The prime minister congratulated him on assuming his new responsibilities and expressed the hope that PAF would greatly benefit from his professional capabilities and leadership.

The Air Chief Marshal Mujahid Anwar Khan thanked the prime minister for reposing confidence in him and assured that he would perform to the best of his abilities for further strengthening air defence of the Country.

The Chief of Air Staff also held a meeting with the Federal Minister for Defence Khurram Dastgir Khan at the Ministry of Defence in Rawalpindi.

The defence minister congratulated the new air chief on his appointment and wished him every success in taking PAF forward as a 21st century guardian of the nation’s air frontiers.

Mujahid Anwar took over command of the PAF on March 19. He is the the 22nd air chief, was born on December 23, 1962 and secured commission in December 1983.

A qualified flying instructor from the Air War College and a graduate of National Defense University, Khan is a recipient of the Chairman Joint Chief of Staff Committee gold medal, the coveted sword of honor and the best pilot officer laurel.

A formation of JF-17 fighter jets presented a guard of honour to outgoing ACM Sohail Aman on the occasion. Aman hailed the PAF as an exemplary force and said he took great pride in having served as an airman.
