Samaa DSNG van attacked in Karachi, cameraman, driver remained unhurt

KARACHI (Staff Report) – Unknown gunmen riding motorcycles fired at a Digital Satellite News Gathering (DSNG) van of a television news channel in Karachi’s Liaquatabad area on Sunday, officials said.

Police said, the assailants followed the DSNG van belonging to SAMAA TV news channel and opened fire on it in Liaquatabad No 10 area. One bullet hit the van’s windscreen and shattered it.

According to news reports, the DSNG crew members cameraman Kamran Uddin and driver Saleemwas not present inside the vehicle at the time of attack. They remained safe in the gun attack which damaged rear windscreen of the vehicle and hit a tyre.

The attackers fled the scene, police said.

Police added that they had found a bullet casing from a 9mm bullet from the scene of the incident.

Police and Rangers personnel reached the site.

Sunday’s incident comes amid a surge in attacks on journalists and media workers in Karachi.
