Dr Asim Hussain case: Nisar Durrani’s appointment challenged in SHC

KARACHI (Staff Reporter) – Sindh Rangers have challenged senior advocate Nisar Ahmad Durrani’s appointment as special prosecutor in former petroleum minister Dr Asim Hussain case.

The court has accepted the paramilitary force petition for immediate hearing of the petition. Two-member bench headed by Justice Naimtullah Phulpoto will hear the plea.

On Saturday, Sindh government appointed senior advocate Nisar Ahmad Durrani as special prosecutor in former petroleum minister Dr Asim Hussain case.

Durrani has replaced Mushtaq Jahangiri in the position on directions of Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah.

The moves comes just a day after Sindh Rangers, who are complainant in the case, moved Sindh High Court requesting the court to stop Sindh government from intervening in investigation against Dr Asim Hussain. The lawyer of paramilitary force had also alleged that provincial government wants to change special prosecutor in the case.

Earlier Mushtaq Jahangiri also alleged that Sindh government was forcing him favour Dr Asim Hussain in the case.

The former petroleum minister – a close aide of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Co-Chairperson Asif Ali Zardari – was arrested over allegations of corruption and facilitating terrorists at his private hospital in Karachi.
