WB approves 188m assistance to strengthen Guddu Barrage

ISLAMABAD (Staff Report) – The World Bank has approved 188 million dollars assistance to improve reliability and safety of Guddu Barrage.

World Bank Country Director for Pakistan Rachid Benmessaoud said that the amount would also be utilized to strengthen the Sindh Irrigation Department’s capacity to operate and manage the barrages.

The rehabilitation work will add another fifty years to the life of the barrage. The project will benefit over 2.6 million people across three million acres of irrigated land in Kashmore, Ghotki, Jacobabad, Sukkur and Shikarpur districts of Sindh. It will also benefit Nasirabad and Jaffarabad districts of Balochistan.
