Gen Raheel Sharif confirms death sentence of 9 terrorists

RAWALPINDI (Staff Report) – Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif on Monday confirmed the death sentence of as many as nine more terrorists, said Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

According to the statement another terrorist was sentenced to lifetime imprisonment.

These terrorists were found involved in sectarian killings in Mastung, murders of law enforcement agencies’ officials in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) and carrying out suicide attack on a mosque in Nowshera. Terrorists who killed Major-General Sanaullah and Colonel Touseef of Pakistan army are also among these hardcore militants.

Earlier on September 2 the army chief ratified death sentences to five terrorists involved in different events of targeted killing such as Lahore Advocate killing, Quetta sectarian killing, murder of police official in Gadab area of Karachi, attack on polio workers in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Bannu jailbreak and attacks on girls schools.

In another order on August 13 the army chief okayed death sentence of seven terrorists involved in Army Public School carnage and Safoora Chowrangi attack. The incidents had left over 150 dead including 130 school children.

Country’s political parties introduced 21st constitutional amendment that allowed military courts to try civilians involved in terrorism in January this year.
