Army Chief directs DG Rangers to arrest perpetrators of Karachi unrest

RAWALPINDI (Web Desk) – Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif Monday telephoned Director General (DG) of Pakistan Rangers (Sindh) Major General Bilal Akbar.

The DG Rangers briefed General Raheel about violence that flared up in Karachi hours earlier.

During their conversation, the army chief directed Maj-Gen Bilal Akbar to arrest the culprits behind the agitation.

Earlier, workers of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) clashed with police and ransacked ARY News office in Karachi, leaving one man dead and seven others injured including Samaa cameraman.

MQM protesters also clashed with police on the streets, sparking volleys of gunshots and tear gas at several stations across the urban center, police and witnesses stated.

The move comes shortly after MQM announced holding protests in front of SAMAA, Geo News and ARY News against “lack of coverage of the party’s hunger strike” at press club.

Demonstrators also tried to burn SAMAA’s DSNG, leaving a cameraman wounded.
