KARACHI – The Pakistan Maritime Security Agency on Friday arrested 28 Indian fishermen for fishing in the country’s territorial waters.
The PMSA also seized five Indian fishing boats during an action in the open sea. The arrested Indian fishermen have been given into the custody of Docks police for further legal action.
The arrests have been made a day after Pakistan Foreign office announced to release 291 Indian fishermen in two phases on humanitarian grounds.
The fishermen will be released on 29th December (this month) and 8th January (next month) via Wagah Border, Foreign Office spokesperson said.
Earlier this month, 43 Indian fishermen were detained and their fishing boats seized for violating Pakistan’s territorial waters.
In November, Pakistan’s security agency arrested 55 Indian fishermen during an action in the Arabian Sea.
