Historic win: India thrash South Africa by 130 runs

MELBOURNE (Web Desk) – India successfully defeated South Africa by 130 runs during the world cup 2015, for the first time in the world cup history. South Africa failed to chase the target of 308 runs in the match played at Melbourne cricket stadium.

South Africa’s opening batsmen failed to stay long at crease, de Kock and Hashim Amla both returned to pavilion at 40 runs. Later on du Plessis managed to score 55 off 98 balls but it went in vain when none of the other players could score well.

South African Captain AB de Villiers, who recently scored the fastest century, also failed to perform against India. he scored only 30 runs till the end of innings.

India’s Ashwin picked 3 wickets off 41 runs whereas Mohammad Shami and MOhit Sharma both managed for 2 wickets each.

After defending champion India decided to bat first, opener Shikhar Dhawan hit 137 off 146 balls to lift India to 307 for seven in their World Cup Pool B match against South Africa at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Sunday.

The left-hander put on 127 for the second wicket with Virat Kohli (46) and 125 for the third with Ajinkya Rahane (79 off 60 balls).

Earlier, India had never beaten South Africa at a World Cup, losing all three in 1992, 1999 and 2011.
