KARACHI – Five children of a family died in Karachi early Friday morning after consuming suspected poisonous food.
According to the police, the mother of the deceased children is under medical treatment in a local private hospital located at the Stadium Road in the area, who is said to be in a critical condition.
The deceased children have been identified as one-and-a-half-year-old Abdul Ali, four-year-old Aziz Faisal, six-year-old Aliya, seven-year-old Tauheed and nine-year-old Salwa.
The police said that the family originated from Quetta and was on a visit to Karachi.
According to initial reports, the family consumed food from a restaurant located in the Saddar area in the city and fell sick, after which they were shifted to the hospital.
It is still unclear where they ate that caused them to get sick.
Taking notice of the incident, the Sindh Government has directed the provincial Food Authority Department to reach the hospital and submit its report.
