Police refute MQM prisoners facilitated

KARACHI (Web Desk) – The Karachi police chief, Ghulam Qadir Thebo, said on Sunday Rangers personnel were still being targeted by terrorists although there was a considerable decline in targeted killing and other crimes in the sprawling Karachi metropolis.

Interacting with a group of reporters after attending a photo exhibition at the Quaid’s mausoleum here, Thebo refuted the reports that the Sindh Police had facilitated Muttahida Qaumi Movement prisoners during the Pakistan People’s Party’s government, and maintained the matter was taken care of between the two parties.

He said MQM prisoners were separated from others after a written agreement was made public, by a local television last week.

He said the MQM leadership was having trouble meeting the jailed activists and in this respect, they held a meeting with police and jail authorities which was on-record and was attended by a then minister as well.

The senior police official said restoration of peace would bring prosperity, so all the stakeholders should be on the same page.
