Ansarul Shariah chief among 8 terrorists shot dead in Karachi: Rangers

KARACHI – Eight suspected terrorists have been killed in an operation jointly conducted by Rangers and Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) personnel in city’s Raess Goth area of Baldia Town, a spokesman for the Rangers said on Sunday.

Five of the deceased were killed on the spot while the other three injured died on the way to the hospital, while, one CTD officer and two Rangers personnel were also injured during the exchange of fire, the spokesman said.

The Rangers and CTD surrounded a hideout of terrorists on Saturday night in Raes Goth and asked the terrorists holed up inside to turn themselves in, but they opened fire on the law enforcers. The Rangers called in reinforcement before storming the compound, he added.

Identification of the dead was completed, Colonel Faisal said at a press conference later in the day, with two of the suspected terrorists identified as the ASP chief Sheheryar-ud-Din Warsi, alias Dr Abdullah Hashmi, who was also named as the mastermind of all ASP attacks.

Another of the suspected terrorists was identified by the Rangers as Arsalan Baig, a member of the ASP’s target-killing team.

He added that a huge cache of arms and ammunition was also recovered from the hideout.

Other terrorists named as Danish, Junaid, Sarosh, Muzammil are on the run, Col Faisal informed and added a manhunt has been launched in the vicinity to nab them.
