Punjabi Parchar welcomes CM s message on Mother Language Day

LAHORE (Staff Report) – Activist organistion Punjabi Parchar has welcomed the message of Shahabaz Sharif on International Mother Lanaguage Day in which he categorically linked the identity of a nation with its mother language.

“Punjabi has a rich culture and literary heritage by including the poetry of great Sufi poets of Punjab,” said Ahmad Raza, Punjabi Parchar president, in a press statement on Tuesday.

“In the curriculum we can not only make our youth well aware of Sufi wisdom of Punjab but can also counter the terrorism effectively,” he added.

Mr Raza demanded that the CM should immediately put his words into practice by announcing Punjabi as the mode of education in Punjab.

He further called for all necessary measures to include Punjabi as medium of instruction at primary level, and compulsory subject in higher classes.

On Sunday, a large number of activists, students and civil society members took a protest rally for the constitutional right of education in their mother language – Punjabi.

On the International Mother Language Day, they staged a demonstration outside the Lahore Press Club.

With placards and banners in their hands, they were demanding Punjabi as compulsory subject from Primary to Graduation level.

Article 251 of the constitution of Islamic Republic of Pakistan binds the provinces to adopt necessary measure for promotion, teaching and usage of regional languages.

“The Punjab government is deliberately making the children of Punjab ignorant through banning the education in their mother language,” said Ahmad Raza, president Punjabi Parchar.

Renowned poet Baba Najmi, Ghazala Nizam din, Diep Saeeda, Tohid Ahmad Chatha, Khalil Ojla, Amjad Salim, Rana Abdul Majeed, Shahzad Joya, Biya je, Ziaullah Sara also spoke on the occasion.
