SANGHAR (Web Desk) – Polling for Local Government (LG) elections is under way in Sanghar and Badin districts.
In Sanghar, people are casting their votes for 1 district council, 73 Union Councils, 4 municipal committee and 11 town committees. 692 polling stations were set up in the city.
Number of registered voters in Sanghar is around 724,000. At least 6,904 policemen and 1,000 Rangers personnel are performing their duties to ensure violence-free elections.
In Badin, polling is being held in31 wards of 4 Union Councils and two town committees. 2,000 personnel of police and Rangers are deployed to avert any untoward incident during the polls.
The polling will continue till 5:30 pm under strict security.
The elections in the second phase which were to be held in Sanghar and Badin on November 19, 2015 were postponed owing to poor law and order situation. The polling was pushed ahead in entire Sanghar while in some union councils (UC) of Badin.
