LOS ANGELES – Hollywood star Anne Hathaway is planning to give up alcohol for 18 years. The reason is that the star doesn’t want to drink in front of her children.
The Academy-Award-winning actress, 36, revealed to Ellen DeGeneres during the show that she will be giving up alcohol for 18 years — if things go according to plan.
The actor was invited at the ‘Ellen Degeneres show’ for promoting her upcoming film, “Serenity,” starring herself and Matthew McConaughey.
“We drank the night away,” Hathaway recalled of one night during filming. “Then I had to go to a meeting with Steven Knight, our director, the next day. I was just kind of — have you guys ever had to do a meeting hungover? And so, I was just kind of, like, stumbling with one eye open and I was trying to convince him regarding certain things about my character.”
This episode prompted Hathaway to make the decision to say goodbye to alcohol while her son Jonathan is still young, mostly because she wants to remain fully present for him, especially when he’s at an age where he depends on her for everything and still lives in her house.
“I quit drinking back in October,” she said, claiming the hiatus will last until her baby boy is a legal adult. “I’m going to stop drinking while my son is living in my house just because I don’t totally love the way I do it, and he’s getting to an age where he really does need me all the times in the morning. I did one school run where I dropped him off at school — I wasn’t driving, but I was hungover — and that was enough for me. I didn’t love that one.”

This isn’t the first time that Hathaway has taken a break from alcohol. Back in 2015, she made a New Year’s resolution to stop drinking because she wanted to make her health a priority, vowing to take at least a month off and remain sober for the month of January.
