PML-N calls for new JIT to probe Sahiwal incident

ISLAMABAD — The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leaders on Wednesday called for probe into the Sahiwal shooting incident by a new Joint Investigation Team (JIT).

Talking to media persons outside the Parliament House, PML-N members of the National Assembly Rana Sanaullah, Marriyum Aurangzeb and Rana Tanveer Hussain rejected the JIT report and demanded that a new JIT should be constituted to investigate the incident.

Rana Sanaullah claimed that the PML-N government had removed all the officers concerned soon after the Model Town incident.

Sanaullah said the PM and CM should resign and appear before a partial Joint Investigation Team (JIT).

“During the JIT investigation into the incident, I stepped down as law minister and remained out of office for more than a year,” Sanaullah added.

Rana Tanveer Hussain said the whole nation was in shock over the Sahiwal killings and the PML-N in its meeting had expressed its concerns about the incident.

Saturday’s shootout drew nationwide condemnation after an elite squad of the Punjab police killed grocery store owner, his wife and his teenage daughter.

Khalil, a resident of Lahore’s Kot Lakhpat area, his wife Nabeela, their 13-year-old daughter, and their neighbour, Zeeshan, were on their way to a wedding in Burewala when they were killed in firing on their car near the toll plaza on GT Road in the Qadirabad area.

Three children in the car survived. Khalil and Nabeela’s minor son sustained a bullet injury while their two other daughters remained unhurt.

The killings sent a shock wave across the country as one of the three surviving children who were witness to the episode denied the official version in a video that went viral on social media.
