Two Burmese men sentenced to death for killing UK tourists

BANGKOK (News Desk) – Two Burmese men have been sentenced to death after a court found them guilty of killing two UK national tourists in Thailand last year.

Tourists Miss Hannah Witheridge and Mr David Miller, in their early twenties, were killed by Zaw Lin and Wai Phyo. The dead bodies were recovered from Koh Tao on 15 September 2014.

Medical examination of bodies confirmed that Miss Hannah Witheridge was raped before have been killed. DNA test was also carried out as an evidence against the accused.

The Burmese men had initially confessed to their crime but later they retracted their statements when presented before judge.

On Thursday three member bench unanimously announced death penalty for the culprits while concluding the hearing.
