KARACHI – In a heartbreaking incident, a child died after falling down an elevator shaft at a Karachi building on Saturday.
12-year-old Zain fell eight stories down an elevator shaft when he opened the door while the lift was not there.
According to police, three to four elevators were not working in the residential building in Saddar area. The administration of the building has been summoned at the police station.
A resident of the building said that the only functional elevator of the building was in a dilapidated condition.
Funeral prayer of Zain were offered after the body was brought to his house.
Karachi deputy mayor Arshad Vohra has vowed to probe the incident through an inquiry committee.
In August this year, a delivery boy died in a similar accident at a building in Clifton.
