Give us half of everything: MQM makes stern demand in Sindh Assembly budget debate

KARACHI (Web Desk) – The Muttahida Quami Movement has demanded a 50 per cent share of all the resources and powers for Sindh urban areas, while proclaiming that the next chief minister of the province will belong to the MQM.

Taking part in the budget debate yesterday, Leader of Opposition in Sindh Assembly Khawaja Izharul Hassan alleged that the policies of PPP-led government were biased against the urban areas, especially Karachi.

“Fifty percent of the province’s resources must be given to big cities in order to keep a balance between urban and rural populations,” the MQM lawmaker said.

“Budgetary funds are misused. Corruption is everywhere. We reject this budget and the policies of the sitting government,” he added.

He demanded that the Rangers should be given discretionary control over the whole province. “The PPP government has destroyed not only Karachi, but also Hyderabad, Sukkur and Larkana,” the MQM leader said, adding that all the districts of Sindh should be given financial resources on the basis of the NFC formula.

He criticized the Rs. 11 billion allocation for the Chief Minister Secretariat and demanded that Rs 5 billion be diverted for uplift of the people of Thar. He also urged the government to give Rs 50 million from the Governor House’s budget to Thar.

He also criticized the Sindh government’s poor performance in the sectors of health, local government, and education and feared that the province’s development budget would go into the pockets of the corruption and commission mafia, leaving the people of the province with nothing.
