Top Gun 2 : Tom Cruise all ready for take off with upcoming sequel

Tom Cruise is all set for major comeback thrills in a sequel to his 1986 military action film Top Gun. In an interview, Cruise was quoted as saying, “it is definitely happening.

While currently promoting his latest film, The Mummy, Cruise conversed with the host on the Wednesday edition of Australia’s morning TV show “Sunrise” when he was asked if the rumors relating to Top Gun 2 were true.

It’s true, it’s true,” he said, as he added with a grin, “I’m going to start filming it probably in the next year. It’s happening.

Cruise essayed the role of the cocky pilot Maverick in Top Gun, one of the top students in the US training camp for elite military fighter pilots and occupied in a bitter rivalry with a fellow flyer played by Val Kilmer.

The Paramount Pictures film responsible for kick-starting Cruise’s career as a global action star grossed more than $350 million worldwide, estimated by film tracker BoxOfficeMojo.com.

Representatives for Paramount Pictures refused to comment to Reuters on the film’s sequel and whether the studio was involved with the follow-up.

Jerry Bruckheimer, Top Gun producer, took to his Twitter with a photo of himself and Cruise last week, captioning it as the 31st anniversary of the opening day of “Top Gun”.

Back in January 2016, Bruckheimer teased Top Gun fans with a tweet, “Just got back from a weekend in New Orleans to see my old friend @TomCruise and discuss a little Top Gun 2.”
