KABUL – Over 23 militants loyal to Taliban and ‘Islamic State’ groups have been killed after they clashed with each other in Afghanistan’s northern Jowzjan province, officials said on Tuesday.
The battle happened when Taliban attacked IS overnight in Gardan and Chaqma Chuqur of Qosh Tepa district, provincial governor’s spokesman Mohammad Raza Ghafoori said.
The 23 deaths included 10 Taliban insurgents and 13 from Daesh, which is also known as IS or ISIS.
He was quoted by 1TVNews as saying that the Taliban fighters had come for the ongoing battle from the different provinces.
Earlier this month, the police chief of Kandahar province month said that the Taliban leader urged his followers not to fight against IS.
